Some of you know me, and some of you may be learning about me right now. As you could tell I am Troy. Nice to meet you! I have a story to share. It is about me and how I got to this point in my life. It’s a pretty interesting story. Care to listen, or in this case read?
“Do you understand that by entering a plea of no contest, that you are giving up your rights to a trial and that the punishment of this plea is the same as if you enter a guilty plea?” asks the judge.
“Yes your honor. I do” I sadly replied.
“Based on all of the facts that are in front of me I waive your request for home restriction and order you to serve 24 months in a federal correctional facility to be determined at a later time. You will also be ordered to pay restitution in the amount of 2.7 million dollars to the victim. This concludes this hearing” the judge said in a strict manner as he slams the gavel down.
And that was the day I began a new journey, December 10th, 2012. How did I get here you may ask. I have asked myself that question hundreds of times. How did I end up in a Federal Prison? I have never been in any kind trouble with the law like this, so how does a man, with a good heart, that cares about people so much as I do, land in prison?
It started back in 2005, when I was working as a loan officer. I loved that job. I loved helping people achieve their goals and putting the puzzle pieces together to find the best suitable solution for their needs. I absolutely loved it. However, one day, the company I was working for shut their doors without paying us, leaving me with a new born and no money. I quickly found another job at another mortgage institute. This place was cut throat! It was loud and busy and the managers were constantly yelling at us to get more clients. They offered cash bonuses right on the spot. It was a hustle. I felt out of place because this environment only cared about money and not about their clients.
One day I was working on a loan and my manager, came over to assist me with financing issues I was having for this borrower. It was at this pivotal moment where my life took a different direction. He showed me how this place was getting so many loans approved. They had a bank that they were submitting their loans through that were not repulling borrowers credit reports, as most lenders do to protect themselves and their investors, and that the bank would use the mortgage brokers credit reports of the borrowers this way to not affect the borrowers score. So this bank was using our paper copy of credit reports. What the managers were doing was altering the credit reports to give borrowers higher scores and changing information to match those higher scores, then reprinting the credit reports and submitting to the bank for approvals. It worked every single time.
Now fast forward to one year, where in 2006 I had established myself in the mortgage industry and felt it was a great idea to open up my own mortgage company. Capitol Credit Corporation was formed and we were growing. I eventually had two offices with about 10 loan officers and two branch managers. Things were going great. And then the shift happened with one phone call. An old woman had made contact with me and had explained to me that she was put into a home loan where the rate kept going higher and now her mortgage payments are too high. Because she was on a fixed income, she had been unable to make her mortgage payments in three months and was on the verge of losing her home. She was so sad and I felt this sadness in my heart as well. Someone took advantage of her and I had to find a way to fix this for her. Then, I remembered what my old manager taught me, and began to find banks that did the same thing, not repull credit and take the brokers paper credit report to fund the loans. And I found one. I was able to save her home, prepay one year of mortgage payments for her and put her back on a fixed payment. I remember the phone call to this day when I told her I got her approved. She started crying tears of joy and was so grateful for me. I remember her asking me how I did it and I just told her I knew mortgage magic. I remember feeling so good about myself and proud that I was the one person that was able to help her. I forgot the fact that I did it illegally.
This woman began to send me business and next thing you know, I had helped out about 20 other families from the same scenario doing it the same illegal way. I eventually got caught. And that brings us to December 10th, 2012 when I was sentenced. There is more to that story that you can read about in my book that will be out soon. But in an effort to keep this posting short, I am having to get to the main points.
Off to prison I went. Again, you can read all about my prison experience in my book. During my stay, they offered a 6 month course about cognitive behavior, basically your thoughts, and how your actions are based off your thoughts. Even your emotions come from your thoughts. It was a very intense course. It was also the best thing that had ever happened to me. To this day, I am thankful that I had to go to prison so that I could get involved with that course and allow me to change my thinking which made me into a better man. Because of this course, I have turned my entire life around. I found the true meaning of being humble. I learned about gratitude, caring, open-mindedness, willingness, responsibility, objectivity, and caring and how my thoughts struggled from these main core values. I learned to challenge my thoughts so that I could have better consequences. It was such an amazing experience that I will be forever grateful for. Isn’t that crazy? I am extremely grateful for having to go to prison! It made me such a better person.
I was released in September of 2014 and I wasted no time in trying to establish myself. I had zero money to my name, two young daughters that I had to support, no job and now was listed as a felon. The odds are stacked high against me. One thing I learned is that you never know how strong you are, until your strength is all you have left as an option. So I began looking for work, however nobody wanted to hire a convicted felon. I had no car so I was riding a bike to these job interviews only to be turned down. Now, prior to me going to prison, I did do part time work as a certified massage therapist out of a chiropractor’s office. His name was Dr. Scott Zawada, and I am mentioning him because he is one of the reasons for my success. I called him up to see if I could come back, and without any hesitation, this man said “of course!” I went and got my licenses renewed and my insurance coverage back on and I was back to work with Dr. Z.
Things didnt just start to happen for me, I had to create them. Yes, I was working at the chiropractors office, but I wasn’t busy enough to make a living. I remember a busy week for me was 7 appointment in a weeks time. I continued to look for a job that was more stable. A friend of mine introduced me to a man named Patrick Russi, who owned a tree trimming company called Green Trees. Patrick, didn’t care about my criminal record, Patrick cared about how hard of a worker I was. So at 39 years old, I began working with Patrick, cutting and trimming trees. This job was very hard on my body. It was not easy by any means, but it helped me support my family. I would start work at 6am and we would finish around 3, then I would ride my bike 10 miles to the chiropractor’s office and work from 4:30p til about 10 (when I had appointments. I would take appointments on Saturdays and Sundays as well. It wasn’t easy but I had a vision in my head. One day I was going to open up my own Medical Massage Center. In fact, I had a sticker on the door to my room at the chiropractors office that said Get Me Goings Medical Massage Center, even though it was a little ole room because I knew one day I would obtain that goal. That was my way of putting it into the universe.
At this time, I still found time to return to school and further my education in the field of sports medicine. After, a year of just straight busting my ass, I was able to leave the tree trimming business because, I had grown my practice at the chiropractor’s office. Finally in January 2018, I left Dr. Z’s and opened up Get Me Goings Medical Massage Center. It was like nothing anyone had ever seen before. I kept the lights on, I pumped up high-energy music, and I got people the results they were looking for. I out grew my original building in one year and had to move to a bigger establishment in February 2019. Currently, Get Me Goings Medical Massage center has two locations; one in San Diego, and one in Loomis, California. I have two understudies who work on people using my techniques and some of theirs, and I have about three interns whom are all learning the Get Me Goings way.
All of this with zero money in my pocket, but an “I can!” attitude. I am still amazed as to how far I have came in such a short period of time. It humbles me and allows me to be grateful for so much in my life. As I look back at the last 4 years of my life, it gives me a spark that says, I can do it again. But this time, I want to help others become successful no matter what it is that they are trying to achieve, I believe I have the mindset to help them out, to hold them accountable and to give them the encouragement and guidance that they need. And so, in January 2020, Troy Goings Coaching is formed.
